HIGH-VELOCITY
SYSTEMS
Duct
is the conduit, which transfers warm or cool air to and from a mechanical system
to a conditioned area. Most ducting is accomplished by conventional methods.
For those of you who don't know what this means, I will simplify. These are
the rather large metal or fiberglass pipes or boxes, which you may negotiate
in your basement, or hit your head on. This conventional method works fine.
It has been around a long time and will be around forever. However, there are
some situations where these cumbersome ducts will not physically fit. For this,
there is HIGH VELOCITY.

High velocity is achieved by using
less (much cooler) air at greater pressure for desired conditioning. The ducting
is much smaller than used in conventional methods. It has been used since the
1960s. Many people are unaware of this. Unico is a company who manufactures
these types of air-distribution systems. In my opinion, they are very reliable
and a fine piece of equipment. Solid.
These systems can be used pretty
much anywhere that a conventional system can be used. They are ideal for Cape-Cod
style homes (where you only have a knee wall to install everything), attic cooling
systems, and basements (ducting above drop ceilings). It is used a great deal
in very old homes and in Historic buildings. Another great thing about them
is that the air outlets are very small, which will maintain the visual integrity
of the conditioned room.
